I want to share something I don't see enough people talking about.
 
The data industry is younger than you think.
 
Power BI was released in 2013. Tableau only became mainstream around 2010. The job title "data analyst" as we know it today barely existed before 2008. Python for data science became accessible to non-developers around 2015 with Pandas and Jupyter.
 
The entire modern data stack is 10–15 years old.
 
Nobody has been doing this for 30 years. There are no "old-timers" who got their head start in the 1990s. The field is new. The tools are new. The roles are still being defined.
 
This means two things:
 
1. The gap between a beginner and an "experienced" analyst is smaller than in almost any other technical field.
 
2. The ability to learn and adapt is worth more than years of experience in a field that keeps changing.
 
The analyst who learned Power BI in 2018 has to relearn it constantly. The analyst who starts today has the same starting point.
 
You haven't missed anything. You're arriving at exactly the right time.
